Gauteng Provincial Womens Team |
All Gauteng's provincial teams had a very good season. Unfortunately most of our U/13 girls' games in their national week were rained out and they only managed to play one game during the whole tournament.
The U/16 team traveled to Namibia for their national week. They won all their round robin matches but unfortunately they lost in the final. One of our players Raisibe Ntozakhe was named player of the tournament with her outstanding bowling performance. Raisibe took 19 wickets at an average of 2.5.
The CSA Girls U/19 week was held in Johannesburg. The girls played time cricket and the tournament was a huge success, with outstanding performances from Savanna Cordes, Carla Strydom, Taylor Wilmot, Marlene Grieb and Kirsten Gonsalves.
The Senior Women's squad participated in the CSA Women's provincial tournament. They performed very well winning 7 out of their 8 group matches. This secured them a home semi final. The semi final was played on the 2nd of April 2011 at the JCC cricket grounds against the defending champions KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). It was by far the tensest match of the season with both teams fighting very hard, but in the end KZN proofed to be the stronger team winning by 38 runs.
One of the highlights of the 2010/2011 season was the start of the women's club league in Gauteng. There were 5 teams that participated in the league. These teams include:
