Tough start to the #CSAWomensWeek for Central Gauteng Lions Women.
The Central Gauteng Lions Women CSA Women’s week got off to a tough start as they succumbed to a 6-wicket loss to fellow Gauteng rivals Northerns at St Andrews, Hickling Field in Bloemfontein.
Central Gauteng Lions Women won the toss and elected to bat first after the match was reduced to 46 overs for each side due to a wet outfield earlier in the morning with hopes the outfield would still be slick enough to get runs on the board.
Nadine de Klerk picked up the first wicket of the day as Central Gauteng’s Palesa Mapoo was bowled for 2 (7) . Northerns’ Sune Luus who got figures of 3 - 8 picked got the next wicket 10 balls later of Robyn Searle through a runout.
Jenna Searle 10 (58) and Nokhululeko Thabethe 17 (66) looked to provide the batting resistance for Central Gauteng Lions as they faced a combined 124 balls as they managed to add a combined 27 runs to the scoreboard.
The Central Gauteng Lions Women posted a first innings total of 106/9 after 46 overs played.
Mignon du Preez starred with the bat for Northerns as she scored a pivotal 55 from 65 balls to help her team chase the target set by Central Gauteng Lions within 33.3 overs
Lehlohonolo Sardick was the pick of the Central Gauteng bowlers as she got figures of 1–11, while Shabnim Ismail was the most economical with figures of 0 – 15 after 7 overs bowled.
