Rain in East London ruins final day at U17 Week
Rain played spoilsport as all eight matches on the final day of the Momentum Under-17 Week were washed out in East London on Sunday.
All of the matches did get underway, before the bad weather that had been forecasted for the region arrived mid-morning to cut short proceedings.
There was time however, for a few stellar performances like Moude Maqungu grabbing 4/17 in 10 overs for Free State, who had Mpumalanga on the ropes at 115/8 before the wet weather intervened.
Sello Malatji of Limpopo had also done excellently by grabbing 3/18 in seven overs to help his side reduce North West to 67/4, before they recovered to reach 158/4 through Henco Naude (58*).
There was another three-for in the match between Northerns and KwaZulu-Natal, who were reeling on 152/6 thanks to Dian Forester’s sensational 6-3-5-3.
In other action, Nicholas Fowler struck 59 to help Eastern Province reach 168/4 versus Boland, while Erlank Bernard was unbeaten on 57 as Northern Cape to 145/3 against KwaZulu-Natal Inland.
In other action, Anda Sonwabile Duda had taken 2/8 for Border to help the local side cut South Western Districts to 20/2 and 40 not out by Ryan Kruger saw Easterns leave Eastern Cape Invitational on 169/5.
Finally, Jonathan Bird made 52 as Western Province got to 166/4 in their game with Gauteng. Bryce Parson ended an outstanding all-round week by taking 2/29.
