It is with the greatest pleasure to write the last message for the final newsletter of the season from the Central Gauteng Lions. The 2017/18 cricket season has been a great ride, as well as a pleasure and an honour in my humble opinion. Overall, we have experienced some good and bad cricket this season, but, at the end of it all, the pipeline of the Central Gauteng Lions is clearly pumping. All you need to do to see this is to follow cricket around the country and work out the number of cricketers that we have produced, not only for Gauteng Cricket, but the country as a whole. I therefore recognise the part that our mini cricket, schools cricket, club cricket and provincial cricket have played in producing cricketers for the system. But most importantly, I acknowledge the coaches, administrators and volunteers in those respective systems that have put in the long hours and hard work to perfect the techniques of our players and give them opportunities to excel in the game. Your work, ladies and gentlemen, has not gone unnoticed. May you continue producing quality cricketers for the system.
To the cricket service department - from mini cricket all the way to senior provincial cricket – your leadership, coaching, mentorship and guidance is of best quality; may you long continue serving the country. I have personally witnessed your hard work behind the scenes and yes, sometimes it might feel like no one recognises your hard work, but believe you me that the kids you interacted with saw it and appreciated it. When you see these kids on the television at a cricket ground, whether you’re watching a test match, ODI, or 20 over game, it will never be the same knowing that you played a pivotal role in their upbringing. My prayer for all of you is that may the Almighty bless you with many more years of dedication and passion for giving your services for the benefit of this lovely game we call cricket.
