GCB mourns passing of a former great servant of the GCB Development Programme
The Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) mourns the passing of a former servant of the GCB Development programme, Soweto, Jasua Lekgoa, who was regarded as one of the finest Soweto Cricket Development coaches and managers to come out of the programme.
Lekgoa was involved in the Soweto Cricket Development Programme where he coached from u/11 level through to u/19. He was described as an adaptable person, willing and able to work with all individuals keen to play cricket, inspiring them to be the best they can be whilst leading them every step of the way.
Lekgoa also served on many sports committees such as the Ken Viljoen Cricket Week-Transvaal Committee, the Gauteng Province and High School Cricket Committee, Soweto Schools Cricket Committee, Primary and High School Athletics Committee, Jabavu Cluster Athletics. His positions held in committees included being a coach, manager, secretary, executive member and chairperson. His charitable nature and willingness to get involved in as many community projects as possible was an inspiration to many.
Chief Executive, Greg Fredericks, sees this as a commendable life devoted to cricket. “Looking back at all Mr Jasua Lekgoa has achieved in his life, it is only but an honour recognise him as a benevolent, compassionate and generous servant of Gauteng cricket development in South Africa.”
“We wish to express our sincere condolences to those who are mourning the loss of this former servant of the GCB Development programme. When his name is mentioned, there will undoubtedly be enormous respect for his sphere of influence not only of the Soweto Cricket Development, but also for his remarkable service to all those he coached and managed,” Fredericks added.
