Gauteng won both their T20 matches on Day 3 of U17 Week
Bryce Parsons starred with bat and ball as Gauteng won both their Twenty20 matches on day three of the Momentum Under-17 Week in East London on Friday. The team from the Highveld were one of six teams to claim double wins along with Eastern Cape Invitational, Free State, Western Province, Boland and KwaZulu-Natal.
In the first game, all-rounder Parsons struck an unbeaten 54 and took 1/12 to help his side overcome KwaZulu-Natal Inland by nine wickets at Selborne A, before he blasted 72 off 42 balls in an 81-run win over Easterns at the same venue.
FS overcame the same two opponents at Selborne B with an unbeaten 36 by Marco de Kock getting them past KZNI by six wickets, before 37 not out from Corne Viljoen helped them squeeze past Easterns, who lost despite Arnie Enslin hitting 51 and Larno Botha bagging 3/19.
Elsewhere, Robbie Jones recorded two scores of 48 not out to help ECI beat Limpopo and then Northern Cape by 16 and six runs respectively, while KZN beat locals Border by eight wickets at Hudson B thanks to Sanele Mnqayi’s 3/15.
There were also half centuries from Matthew Pollard (59) and Simon Holmes (58*) in that game, before Samkelo Gasa top-scored with 36 not out in a narrow nine-run win over Eastern Province on the same field.
Western Province, meanwhile, beat South Western Districts by 47 runs to a 50 from Bonga Makhakha, with Reece Thomas then taking an excellent 4/19 in a 63-run victory over North West.
Boland were the other side that got twin wins after getting past NC and more surprisingly, Northerns.
Johannes Lambrecht was their star in the first game after his stunning return of 5/15 took them to a six wicket win in a match they bowled out the opposition for 26.
Ruan Terblanche then plundered an unbeaten 77 to help get them past the more fancied Northerns by four runs.
Om Thakkar did help Northerns win at least one of their games after he took 3/15 in a nine-wicket win over North West.
In other results, Mpumalanga were beaten by Border and EP by 18 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method and three runs respectively and SWD thumped Limpopo by nine wickets.
