Gauteng Cricket Council wins the toss
Mr. Jack Madiseng was elected Chairperson of the Gauteng Cricket Council (GCC) at its AGM held on 27 August 2018 at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium. Representatives of Cricket South Africa and the Gauteng Sports Council were also in attendance.
The GCC is the administrative body brought into existence by Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) with a view to align all codes of sport and structures to the geo-political demarcations of the country.
The three Unions in the Gauteng province are the Eastern Cricket Union (ECU), the Northerns Cricket Union(NCU) and the Central Gauteng Lions(CGL) – formerly known as the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB). All five district councils will now be united under one banner for cricket. Representation of the Gauteng Cricket Council will be at Cricket South Africa, Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation and the Gauteng Sports Confederation.
“This affords us the opportunity to consolidate our plans, have cricket speak with one voice and one mission to related stakeholders in our province. It is the ideal, and I would like to thank my predecessor, Mr. John Wright, for getting this ship sailing. We will now find a common direction and continue with the development of cricket in Gauteng,” concluded Mr. Madiseng.
The CEO of CGL, Mr. Greg Fredericks, commented: “I want to congratulate Mr. Jack Madiseng on his election as the Chairperson of the Council and I am excited by his vision to consolidate the Gauteng Cricket Council as the powerhouse of cricket in South Africa and the unified voice for the development of cricket in Gauteng.”
Mr. Madiseng grew up playing in Alexandra township, became Chairperson of the Alexandra Cricket Club (ACC) in 2012 and served as a Director of the GCB until his election as President and Chairperson of the Board from 2016 to date.
