KFC celebrated its induction into the mini cricket family with the launch of the first of 16 annual regional festivals, which kicked off on Friday, 6 August 2010 with the Easterns Cricket Union festival. KFC recently took over the reins of the mini cricket programme by committing to a five year investment with Cricket South Africa (CSA) to grow and broaden the entry level programme. This pledge cements KFC’s commitment to cricket from the ground up, culminating in their sponsorship of the Proteas – the ultimate accolade for the young mini cricketers coming through the ranks.
For more than two decades mini cricket has been giving primary school children, from all walks of life, the opportunity to experience the game of

cricket, learning basic skills from batting to bowling and fielding in an entertaining environment. KFC Mini Cricket is more than just about the game; it’s an opportunity to teach children valuable life lessons and social skills such as teamwork and discipline, while promoting a balanced and active lifestyle. It creates memorable family moments with many parents and teachers assisting in the coaching and running of the programme, providing an entertaining day out for the whole family to enjoy.
KFC’s sponsorship in the mini cricket programme is an investment in the youth of South Africa and an opportunity for KFC Mini Cricket to soar to new heights, heralding the next generation of the game.

Getting active with KFC Mini-Cricket and AB de Villiers

As part of the KFC campaign to get children from across South Africa living active and balanced lifestyles, Protea captain and KFC Mini-Cricket ambassador AB de Villiers had an exclusive coaching session with a youngster from Marist Brothers in the south of Johannesburg.
Matthew James was one of thousands of hopefuls who entered a KFC competition last year for this once in a lifetime opportunity to get coached by AB.
“This is our second year of involvement in mini-cricket and events such as today reflect the extent to which the youth have embraced this great summer pastime. We are proud to be able to bring one of the most respected players in world cricket to give a hands-on coaching session to these boys,” says Dave Timm, Chief Marketing Officer at KFC South Africa.
Such was the success of the first year of its involvement that more than 85 000 children got involved in this exciting initiative.
This season, KFC Mini-Cricket festivals started in October last year and will run until March that sees children from all provinces getting into the action. The provincial cricket unions have also committed to having some of their senior players at the festivals to give some invaluable hands-on tips for the children.
“Cricket is such a wonderful way to get children outside and active. And it is one of those sports you can play virtually anywhere. From the backyard to the beaches, the children will find a way to play the game,” says AB de Villiers, captain of the Protea one day team.
Lions Player appearance at Greenstone Mall
I would like to give you an update regarding a KFC Mini-Cricket activation that will be taking place this Saturday 08th Oct. KFC and Ster Kinekor entered a partnership agreement a few months ago to allow KFC to activate its KFC Action Zones at a few selected Ster Kinekor cinemas. The activation elements have involved setting up the Action Zones for the kids to participate in Cricket skills as well as inviting a Franchise player for an instant Photo Opportunity with the fans.
These activations have been taking place across the country, in which we started off with a few JHB activations in July which Thami attended (Pictures attached), the activations moved to Cape Town and then Pretoria and now we have moved them back to JHB. We had an activation last week at Sandton City but unfortunately we were unable to secure a Lions Player through SACA. We currently have another upcoming activation this Sat at Greenstone Mall, and we have just received confirmation from SACA that Jean Symes will be attending the activation from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. He will be requested to have instant pictures taken with the Lions Fans and he will also be requested to sign a few autographs for the fans if they are keen.
