| The University of Pretoria beat the Mecer Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Madibaz by 52 runs in the Pool A semi-final to secure their place in the final on Day Four of the University Sport South Africa (USSA) A Week on Thursday. Stellenbosch University’s Steinhoff Maties defeated North West University (NWU) PUKKE by 46 runs to claim their place in the battle for the 2011 trophy to take place on Friday. |
| Francois Le Clus (83), David Bunn (76),Theunis De Bruyn (59*), led from the front with the bat to get TUKS to 276/4 after they won the toss and chose to bat. NMMU’s reply was a little lacklustre with Colin Ackerman (57) and Sisanda Magala (40) the only noteworthy contributions. NMMU could only manage 224/9 in their allotted 50 overs and were outplayed by a motivated Tukkies team. |
| Maties also won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 212/7 with Uwe Birkenstock getting his half century while Dewald Botha added 43 runs to the tally. M Lazenby of PUKKE scored a hard earned 55 runs but V Geldenhuys claimed four wickets for 20 runs and M Newton collected two wickets for 32 runs to dismiss PUKKE for 166. |

| Pukke were their own worst enemy as they were in a solid position going into the final session. However, a sudden collapse saw Pukke losing their last 6 wickets for 20 runs ensuring Maties their place in the final. |
| In the Pool B semis, the hosts Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) lost their bid for the final after they suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of the in-form University of Fort Hare. The visitors won the toss and chose to field, limiting TUT to 195/8 with Devon Van Onselen scoring 68 and Gerhard Van Der Merwe adding 46. Fort Hare’s Luthando Mnyanda scored 48 with support from Jerry Nqolo who added an unbeaten 44 runs to get their side to victory and a place in the promotion match in their first attempt at the A week. |
| The North West University (Vaal) maintained its winning streak when they beat the University of the Witwatersrand to claim their place in Friday’s Pool B final. Rob Phillips and Zinzima Pongolo took 4/19 and 2/21 respectively to dismiss Vaal for 125. The Wits reply was weak to say the least with the main destroyers in chief, B Ferreira and J O’Kelly taking 4/21 and 3/9 respectively to have them bowled out for a meagre 96 runs. |

| In Pool A’s fifth to eighth place play-off, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) crumbled against the University of the Western Cape (UWC), losing by 75 runs. |
| The University of Cape Town (UCT) claimed a 48-run victory over the University of Free State (UFS) thereby ensuring that Free State and UJ will battle it out in the dreaded relegation match on Friday. |
| In the Pool B fifth to eighth play-offs, Rhodes University claimed their first win in the tournament when they beat the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) by 18 runs while the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) trounced the Central University of Technology (CUT) by 10 wickets. CUT and CPUT will battle it out in the relegation match on Friday, with the loser of this match relegated to the USSA B week in 2012. |
