The first half of the 2017/18 season is all but done. We have had a good season thus far, albeit with one or two hic-ups.
We conducted a course for our members on the New and Changed Laws as per the ICC code 2017. At the end of the course, an exam was written by all members, on Levels 2 and 3. At Level 2 we had 88% of the Umpires passing and at Level 3 - 96%, with one Umpire, Chris Piccaro, scoring a 100% in. Apart from this course, we envisage conducting several courses for Level 1 at various venues. Dates and Venues still to be confirmed.
Seventeen (17), of our Umpires were selected to officiate at the various CSA Tournaments around the Country in December 2017 and January 2018. This is the most number of Umpires from all other Umpires Associations. We have been the Top Umpires Association for the past two seasons, 2015/16 and 2016/17 and we are striving to remain there.
To end on a sad note, we lost two of our young, up and coming Umpires, Innocent Selulu and Zwelethu Mahlangu, both in their early 20’s, in a motor accident in November 2017. Condolences to their Families. May their Souls Rest in Peace. We will miss them.
