AFRICAN QUEEN GAUTENG CRICKET CLUB TOURNAMENT COMES TO AN EXCITING CLOSE

*CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: INDEPENDENT MEMBER OF THE GAUTENG CRICKET BOARD NPC

The Independent Nominations Committee of Gauteng Cricket Board has called for nominations of individuals to serve as Independent Directors on the Gauteng Cricket Board NPC.

The Gauteng Cricket Board NPC (GCB) has resolved that the Independent Nominations Committee(INC) should consider the following skills and experience when nominating Independent Directors who are to be appointed by the end of June 2015.

Major responsibilities

  • An independent candidate with business leadership.
  • An independent candidate with legal experience and relevant qualifications.
  • An independent candidate with a background in finance and relevant qualifications.

It is recommended that an Independent Director have experience in at least one of the followingcompetencies:

  • Law, Corporate Governance and compliance
  • Finance and Auditing
  • Human Resources
  • Commercial and/or Marketing

An independent candidate nominated by the INC who possesses or displays any skills and experience that will be beneficial in their service on the GCB.

Expectations of Independent Members:

The Board shall be the highest authority and shall exercise their powers as set out in the MOI of the GCB. Please note the definition of an Independent Member of the GCB Directors as per Section 23.1.4 of the MOI:

23.1.4  If nominated to be an Independent Director, does not meet the threshold of independence as follows:

23.1.4.1.  Has not been associated with the administration of cricket in the preceding 3 (three) years from date
                  of nomination.

23.1.4.2  Does not have the ability to control or significantly influence the management of the Company;

23.1.4.3  Has not been employed by the Company, or any of its Clubs/Members for the preceding 3 (three)                   years from date of nomination;

23.1.4.4   Is not a member of the immediate family of an individual who is, or has been in any of the preceding                   3(three) years, employed by the Company, its Clubs/Members in an executive capacity;

23.1.4.5   Is not a professional advisor to the Company or its Clubs/Members other than in a Director capacity;

23.1.4.6   Is not a significant supplier, sponsor or customer to or has a contractual relationship with the                   Company or any of its Clubs/Members; or

23.1.4.7    Is free from any business or other relationship that could be seen to materially interfere with the                   individual’s capacity to act in an independent manner.

Diversity will be a strong consideration when appointing Independent Directors. In addition to this, the INC must consider gender equity when recommending Independent Directors.

*LEVEL C SCORERS TRAINING COURSES

The dates and times are listed below.

1. To attend this course you will need to have passed the Level D exam
2. There will be one course of Level C on Saturday mornings
3. Minimum number per course is 5
4. Maximum number per course is 12
5.  Bookings are essential, PLEASE NO WALK-INS
6. Attendance on each date is essential with an exam being the last date of each course offering                                
7. Cost of the course is R150.00
8. Payment needs to be made on the first day of the course
9. Course will take place at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium

Course dates and lecture times:

Saturday 27 June 8:30 - 13:00
Saturday 4 July 9:00 - 13:00
Saturday 11 July 9:00 - 13:00
Saturday 18 July 9:00 - 13:00
Saturday 25 July  - exam  8:45 - 12:00

Bookings for this course will close on Monday 22 June 2015.

1. There will be one course of Level D on Saturday mornings
2. Minimum number per course is 5
3. Maximum number per course is 12
4.  Bookings are essential, PLEASE NO WALK-INS
5. Attendance on each date is essential with an exam being the last date of each course offering                                
6. Cost of the course is R150.00
7. Payment needs to be made on the first day of the course
8. Course will take place at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium
9. Candidates need to attend all the training sessions
10. This course is for people who have an interest in cricket and a basic understanding of the game

Course dates and lecture times:

Saturday 9 May 8:30 - 13:00
Saturday 16 May 9:00 - 13:00
Saturday 23 May 9:00 - 13:00
Saturday 30 May  - exam 8:45 - 12:00

The Gauteng Cricket Board heads up all Senior Clubs in the province. In total the GCB can boasts that 106 teams actively participate in the Sunday Leagues and 100 teams actively participate in the Saturday Senior Structure and that 50 Fixtures take place on a Saturday. A Club Dinner is held annually to pay tribute to all those who excel at this level. Read more

Provincial Cricket

The Gauteng Cricket Academy was started in June 2011. The focus of the academy is to empower the young cricketers and develop them into professional cricketers, and to produce cricketers for the Gauteng Strikers and bizhub Highveld Lions. It is an opportunity for up and coming cricketers to work on theirs techniques, fitness and life skills. Read more

* COACHES CORNER

Provincial Cricket

The objective of this course is to introduce aspirant coaches to the hard-ball version of the game and prepare potential Level I candidates. Topics include the most basic laws and terminology of cricket, pitch measurements and technical dimensions, basic playing skills, etc. The only requirement is that a candidate must be at least 16 years of age to attend this course.
